But the rule was strictly enforced, probably in an attempt to avoid distraction and scandal, not to mention the ire of players’ wives. The rule is something of a bummer, at least to this at-home viewer, who likes to envision the torrid backstage drama of handsome football players cavorting with glamorous cheerleaders, the way I like to imagine that Hollywood actors all date one another (and hey, sometimes they do).
